We Can’t Control Our Children… But We Can Influence Them

I’ve heard some non-parents say that when children are acting out, it is because their parents aren’t doing a good enough job controlling their children. But all parents know that it is actually impossible to control children’s behavior. One parent described her experience trying to control her child’s behavior and how helpless she felt when she realized that nothing she tried made a difference.

The good news is that it is possible to influence your children.

And when you become a positive influence to your child, they are much more likely to listen to you the first time you ask them to do something. 

And just as importantly, when you are a positive influence to your child, they are more likely to hear your voice when a friend asks them to act like a bully to another child or to take a car out before they have their driver’s licence.
